Fire

In a dry Free State winter, everything is fuel.

Fire on the dome is two jobs wearing one name. The first is prevention: getting to landowners and visitors before the match — how fires start here, what a firebreak is for, why a braai on the wrong day is not a small decision. Most of the fires that hurt this land were avoidable by a conversation.

The second is the callout. When a fire runs, people turn out and fight it, in heat and smoke and wind that changes its mind. It is dangerous, exhausting work, and it is the difference between losing a season and losing a decade of recovery.

Grassland is built to burn — at the right time, at the right interval. What it is not built for is burning wrong, and burning often.

This front needs backing.

Every one of these eight runs on donations, volunteers and landowners who say yes. If this is the part of the dome you care about, back it.
